The
spirit of rebellion and freedom is the heart of much of the poetry and
song in The Turning Wave is
from the work of Francis McNamara "Frank the Poet" and John
McGarvie through the words of Ned Kelly (his Jerrilderie letter a poem
in everything but name), Marie E.J. Pitt, Victor Daley and Charles Harpur;
and into the present with Dennis Kevans, John Dengate and Roland Robinson. The
anthology is a rich and broad-ranging selection of work which reflects
the major themes and concern of Irish Australian poets over almost two
centuries, and goes some way towards illuminating the shared culture
and history of Ireland and Australia.. |
