This
collection gathers work that came to a head early in 2001. It was also
assembled with the idea of a reading tour, to New Zealand, in August
2001.Michael Sharkey wanted to publish in one place the risky elegy
for his father that had appeared some time earlier in two parts, so
he re-cast it for the occasion. Some other earlier work was resuscitated, and added to more recently written poems. There are funny poems, rueful ones, and an overall feeling,to my mind, of a book that comes close to the idea of a style he can say anything he wants to. |
